3D DESIGN with the fabulous Black Country Atelier.
Sir Thomas Fremantle School are never ones to pass up an exciting opportunity that will benefit their students.
This is no exception..... Black Country Atelier are a Birmingham-based technology education company, specialising in 3D printing. They will be working with us for the foreseeable future, delivering Design and Technology schemes of work across the school that will educate and enrich the lives of our students. They are also running a Thursday Enrichment group in which pupils will be working towards The Barbican Weekender, assisting on the company's display stand demonstrating to the public.
Our first project is exploring scanning and printing the pupils themselves, resulting in an amazing 3D Yearbook that will be displayed in school. We will also be fortunate enough to use a Laser Cutter later in the year.
The BCA team are fun, hard-working and deliver their projects and tasks in an informative and engaging manner that keep the pupils working and thinking. This really is exciting for staff too, as we are learning alongside and will eventually take over the reigns in the future to deliver this modern, industry inspired qualification.

"There are quite a lot of steps, but that makes it fun because we learn step by step. That'll also make it easier in the future when we use it again."

A TRIP TO THE BARBICAN, LONDON, MARCH 2014
Pupils were invited by BCA to attend The Barbican Weekender, where they were able to demonstrate to members of the public how the 3D printers work and generate scans and prints for people to take home.
BCA were bowled over by their professionalism and knowledge, proving their involvement with Sir Thomas Fremantle is a beneficial one. Well done to all the pupils involved.

3D PRINTING......
Pupils are now developing their ideas into prints.
Using Sketchup to create keyrings pupils will be able to see how quickly they can move from concept to design through to a finished product. This revolutionises the design process for pupils. They don't need to spend weeks planning and designing before making any real products.

SUMMER BRIEF 2014
Design and prototype a 3D badge inspired by Sir Thomas Fremantle andT he Natural World.
Your first task will have been to collect images of natural forms and arrange on piccollage. Aim to take your own photos or use books rather than just relying on Uncle Google, then choose 6 of your favourite.
You will next have to decide upon four that you think you can work with. Remember, you're designing a badge for people to wear.
KNOWLEDGE RECAP: make an animation / film about each of the skills or pieces of equipment we've used for designing and printing. These are demo videos to help you retell others how to use the resources.
